The UNLV Student chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers provides extremely important value to our members. ASCE encourages the development of a professional consciousness. Civil engineering students practice working together effectively and we promote a spirit of congeniality, and we provide friendly contact with the engineering profession. We are able to accomplish this goal by offering opportunities through competitions, industry exposure, leadership, professional development, networking, social events and scholarships. The American Society of Civil Engineers is one of the most prominent engineering societies in the world. Civil engineers work to improve the lives of everyone. Simply stated, civil engineers are creative, people-serving and problem-solving leaders who make our lives easier to live from one day to the next. The American Society of Civil Engineers not only reflects on the profession’s rich heritage, but equipped with this knowledge, ASCE continues to develop flexible, forward-thinking plans for the future of the society and the civil engineering profession.
I have been involved with ASCE since my first week here at UNLV. I am honored to serve as this year’s President. I chose to become a Civil Engineer long before high school began. I was fascinated with altering the physical world. When you help construct an edifice and later get to drive by it, slowly knodding your head knowing what work you put in, that’s a real Civil Engineer. I want to make ASCE an extracurricular that makes students excited to be involved with it. There is a lot of work to do, will you help us?
