Budget Cut Rally!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We need your energy-let's send a clear message no budget cuts we want our new building. Student Leaders this is an issue you should get behind and help send the message


Dear Campus Community,


On Thursday, December 6, 2007 from 12-1pm a rally will be taking place at the UNLV Amphitheater to oppose Governor Gibbons' proposal to cut the university's budget by 8% as well as a separate proposal to increase graduate and undergraduate tuition by 10% and 5% respectively. Petition signing will take place from 10am-2pm.


Senate Minority Leader and UNLV Professor of Political Science Dina Titus, Vice President of Research and Graduate Studies Dr. Ron Smith, and Chair of the Faculty Senate Dr. Bryan Spangelo will be the featured speakers at the rally.


Implications of Budget Cuts:

Hiring freeze and/or loss in faculty and staff

Greenspun Hall and the Science and Education Building construction delayed and/or not opening

Reductions or an outright elimination of various scholarships and research funding

Negative impacts on recruitment and retention of students

Reductions in course offerings

Classroom space limitations and availability concerns

Fewer students able to graduate on time


The combined effect of both budget cuts and the tuition fees increase would be disastrous for the entire UNLV community and threaten the university's vision for becoming and sustaining research extensive status.


This event is being co-hosted by the Graduate Professional Student Association (GPSA), CSUN, and the UNLV Faculty Senate and the Graduate Council.
